The skyline of the city of Florence in the Italy would not be the same without the amazing and stunning Cathedral or Duomo which so personifies the elegance and grandeur of this beautiful city. The Duomo, which translates to ?the Cathedral? or ?the Dome Cathedral?, has a long and regal history dating back to the end of the past 13th century.
In the end of the 13th century, the government of this city who oversaw the Republic of Florence has made a decision to replace the under-sized and plain Santa Reparata with a more amazing and majestic worshipping house. The famous architect at that year named Arnolfo di Cambio was asked to design the building, sans dome. The residents of the Florentine Republic helped finance this great construction, as a tax that was added to all estates of the deceased. And on the year of 1296, this amazing architecture was first built.
Construction of the dome in the city of Florence happened during 1420 to 1436 under the Brunelleschi?s direction. In addition to the shear grandness, the dome is also an architectural marvel. This is the first dome which was constructed, at least in Italy, without the aid of any framework.
There are two layers on the octagonal dome, and also the inner piece which spanned 42 meters across, and the outer shell which provides an amazing and beautiful external view in addition to protecting the inner dome from weather damage.
